Knowing as much as you can about each brake product will help you ease their minds and add to your revenue, when it comes time for them to repair or upgrade their braking systems. The following companies want to help you learn as much as you can regarding their latest brake products in this month’s Market Report.

Braking USA (pictured in feature opener) has released its new ATV rotors, made of high-quality 420 stainless steel with high carbon content to provide high friction coefficient, Aftermarket Sales and Marketing Manager Cory Jonson told us. He explained the braking profile continuously cleans the pad surface to give consistent brake performance in all conditions. These rotors are lighter, have better heat resistance and provide more aggressive stopping power, Johnson continued. He said he has noticed there has been an increase in the number of sport models being used and more people are also upgrading their brakes. “Dealers can increase their profit at the ATV point-of- sale by selling upgrade Braking rotors and by suggesting the upgrade rotors when the unit is in for service,” Johnson added, and the company’s sales are up as customers put more money into their current ATV model, instead of buying a new one. Not all products are good quality, he reminded stores, and they should consult the manufacturer and sales representatives before selling these products.

Now DP Brakes’ ATV products come in new, attractive packaging, said President Larry Mills. The company has also expanded its line of long-lasting DP standard pads and durable rotors for the growing ATV and UTV markets, he continued. These pads are two to three times more durable than other aftermarket and stock, he told us, and all of DP’s pads are quiet and non-abusive to the rotors. “All DP stainless rotors are slightly thicker than stock rotors so they are less likely to warp, bend or crack under extreme conditions,” stated Mills, who said he has noticed increased demand for quality products. “Due to the state of the economy, customers are looking for items that will be beneficial to their wallet. Therefore, providing a product that will get them longer life will save them money over the long haul,” he explained. To combat the impact of high gas prices and the removal of riding areas, stores should increase their service, he recommended. “Due to the decrease in new ATV sales, consumers are digging out their older machines and servicing them to get them back in working order. Therefore, you should see growth in replacement parts such as brakes,” he added. Though sales are slightly down, they have shown a recent increase due to the service of older machines, Mills divulged. He concluded by saying, “Many of the ATVs have similar brakes so crossover to other manufacturers is high. Therefore, stocking levels with DP is lower.”

"As well as being the number one supplier of brake pads, EBC Brakes also offers a huge range of rotors this year, including the Rhino side-by-side oversize brake disc kit,” announced CEO Andy Freeman. He told us the new rotors come complete with relocation brackets that increase the rear brake power significantly by enlarging the standard rotor from its original 165 mm diameter up to 220 mm. “This is a simple bolt-on, no other modifications needed,” Freeman explained, “The new EBC oversize rotor is also cross drilled for better pad cleaning and water/dirt removal under braking.” Fight land closures and high gas prices by stocking and selling long-lasting quality parts like the SV series severe-duty pads from
EBC, Freeman advised, because many consumers don’t even know these pads exist and will thank their dealer for pointing them out. Sales are up 20 percent, he continued, and the company wants to use its 5.5 million hits per month on its company Web site to send customers to dealers. “Dealers should get themselves listed on our ‘where to buy’ pages on the EBC Web site, which costs nothing and refers thousands of riders to their stores every month,” he exclaimed.

U.S Division Vice President Alessandro Milesi reported Galfer’s 1397 heavy-duty compound brake pads are modified from their 1396 material, last longer and come ready to work under heavy mud conditions. “We continue to win ATV championships (Team Yoshimura), as well as continue to meet targets on brake pads, rotors and brake line sales, especially in the sport ATV applications,” he told us, adding, “The market is not as strong, but consumers are still riding and some are still getting modifications done to their machines – not as much as two years ago, but there is still a need for brake upgrades.” Even in the slowed market, people are still riding their ATVs and the opportunity to continue to support and continue to shower the market with new products is essential, Milesi explained, and Galfer’s ATV product sales continue to hold steady with last year’s. “The brands your store supports represent your store,” he told dealer/retailers. Milesi concluded, “The service and quality of those brands speak tons about your store, since cheap products with cheap results will most likely have a consumer not come back to your store.”
