Motorcycle Tires and Wheels Market Report for 2009

Motorcycle Tires and Wheels Market Report 2009

“Motorcycle tires have become more specialized for specific tasks,” noted Peter Vetrano, spokesperson for Full Bore USA. He continued by explaining, “Many more sizes with different load and speed ratings are necessary for today’s bikes. Just because it will fit on the rim, however, doesn’t necessarily mean it is the correct tire for your customer’s bike or usage.” By becoming aware of the different features and benefits of the available tires and wheels, you can help your customers find the correct size, materials, tread, look, etc. for their intended application. The following companies have offered up their latest motorcycle tire or wheel for your consideration.

The D.I.D DirtStar Rim

The D.I.D DirtStar rim is designed for use in supercross, motocross, Enduros and desert racing, described spokesperson Aki Sanada, who continued by saying the company offers these rims in two variations, the LT-X (light version) and the ST-X (strong version). “LT-X is ultra lightweight while maintaining the same strength as our competitor’s strongest race rim,” Sanada explained, “It keeps the optimal balance between the weight and strength.” Only a fraction heavier, the ST-X rim is said to be the strongest rim in the motorcycle industry and are reportedly used by riders such as Andrew Short, Davi Millsaps, and Heath Voss. This summer the company instituted a free chain-for-dealers program, said Sanada, who concluded by telling stores, “When dealers purchase select quantities of certain chain models from their authorized D.I.D distributor they qualify for free chains.”

He told us these tires feature specially designed tread grooves that help dissipate water efficiently on wet surfaces, as well as Aramid belts to enhance high-speed performance. “The 240/ 40VR18 Advance rear is V speed rated (149 mph) and DOT approved,” he added. Lopez told us WPS has focused strongly on high value products that give the customer a lot for his/her money. “We’ve also made sure that we have the maintenance items that dealers need in stock when they need it,” he explained, adding, “These days have forced many dealers to carry less on-hand inventory than they might have in the past, so we have to make sure that we can supply our customers quickly.”
